In Thailand all male citizens must enter a lottery when they turn 21. If they pull a black card they can go about their lives but if they pull a red card they must join the military. If they join because they pulled a red card they are not allowed to choose which branch of the military they join. There are still a lot of males and females who join willingly however and those that join by choice are allowed to choose which branch they serve in.
